Music and Movement

Fountainhead offers both Music and Movement classes to all children enrolled at no additional cost.  Each class is offered once a week in each classroom.  Schedule is subject to change without notice.

Music Class

This unique program teaches the fundamentals of music through vocal, instrumental, movement, and listening skills. It is taught by a licensed Kindermusik and Musikgarden teacher. The curriculum consists of signing, instrument playing, musical concepts, music listening, creative movement, music history, and multi-cultural music experiences.

Movement Class

KidzActiv™ is a fun, effective and balanced exercise plan designed especially for children. It develops and refines individual agility, balance and coordination skills as well as focusing on gross motor skills and spatial awareness.

The session structure is based on a standard exercise class using age-appropriate games and activities. It starts with a warm up to mobilize the joints and muscles, then moves into hand to eye coordination development using small hand equipment; heart healthy exercise is promoted using active movement to music and the class finishes with a cool down consisting of stretching and “sleepy animal” relaxation. Throughout the class, all the children are moving and are involved equally.  A variety of equipment is used throughout the sessions including hoops, beanbags, juggling scarves, foam balls and rhythm sticks, which allows each child to practice skills such as throwing and catching and helps them to develop  both spatial and body awareness.

The KidzActiv™ program has been used in schools for over 15 years, it was initially developed as a response to the growing sedentary life styles of today’s youth. The class aims to encourage all children to enjoy and replicate fun games and help them discover a more active and healthy lifestyle. In 1996, the KidzActiv™ program was nominated for and won the “Make Fitness Happen” Educational Opportunity Grant awarded by IDEA, the International Association of Fitness Professionals and was featured in their monthly magazine in March 1997.

• National YMCA Certificate in Teaching Exercise to Music
• Holds multiple IDEA Certifications, and is certified to teach Aerobics and Youth Fitness.
